Scottsdale Christian Academy is a perfect 7-0 against Scottsdale Preparatory Academy since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Eagles will welcome the Spartans at 3:45 p.m. Scottsdale Christian Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Scottsdale Christian Academy is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering San Tan Charter just ended the team's nine-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Roadrunners by a score of 3-1. The Eagles were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the six matchups prior), but the Roadrunners' pitchers proved too tough.
Scottsdale Christian Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Kendrick, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Scottsdale Preparatory Academy posted their closest victory since April 4, 2024 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over Camp Verde. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.
Cade Zawada made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Scottsdale Preparatory Academy is 3-1 when Zawada posts two or more runs, but 5-8 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brendan MacLean, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Jax Zawada was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Scottsdale Preparatory Academy pushed their record up to 8-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Scottsdale Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Scottsdale Christian Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Scottsdale Preparatory Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Scottsdale Christian Academy beat Scottsdale Preparatory Academy 6-2 in their previous meeting on April 2nd. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
