Basketball Recap: Shanell Sullivan Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Okeechobee

Westwood took a 34-point loss the last time they faced off against Okeechobee, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Westwood Panthers had just enough and edged the Okeechobee Brahmans out 33-31. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Westwood's win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Shanell Sullivan, who posted seven points and five steals. The dominant performance gave Sullivan a new career-high in points. Jihla Greer was another key player, putting up 11 points and six rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Westwood and bumps their season record up to 5-2. As for Okeechobee, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westwood won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Tradition Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Tradition Prep has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Okeechobee, they will take on Harmony at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
