Basketball Game Preview: Mendota Trojans vs. Newman Central Catholic Comets

Mendota is 1-6 against Newman Central Catholic since February of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mendota Trojans will challenge the Newman Central Catholic Comets at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Mendota didn't have too much trouble with Hall as they won 75-57. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Trojans.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Newman Central Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They put the hurt on Erie-Prophetstown with a sharp 65-39 win on Wednesday.

Newman Central Catholic's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-12. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Mendota, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a massive bump to their 15-7 record this season.

Everything went Mendota's way against Newman Central Catholic when the teams last played on January 14th, as Mendota made off with a 64-42 win.
