Football Recap: Monte Vista Christian Starts Season with Loss at Home

Monte Vista Christian unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They and the Piedmont Hills Pirates were almost perfectly matched up on Friday, but the Mustangs suffered a 28-27 defeat. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs of the 49-28 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

A big part of Piedmont Hills' win came down to the chemistry between John Palomo and his top target Travis Linane. Palomo threw for 239 yards and four touchdowns while Linane picked up 110 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Linane showed off some serious burst, connecting on a big catch for 65 yards.

Monte Vista Christian will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Carlmont at 6:00 p.m. on September 13. As for Piedmont Hills, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Independence at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
