Soccer Game Preview: Varina vs. Colonial Heights

The Varina Blue Devils will venture away from home to take on the Colonial Heights Colonials at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Varina's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for five straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Varina turned things around against Highland Springs on Thursday. They and the Springers finished up their game with a 1-1 draw. The result (or lack thereof) was the first time Varina have been dealt a draw since back in April.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Colonial Heights). They put the hurt on Dinwiddie with a sharp 5-2 win on Thursday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for Colonial Heights' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

The victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 3-7-3. Varina's draw gives them a new season record of 1-9-2.

Varina suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Colonial Heights when the teams last played back in May of 2018. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
