Volleyball Recap: Jserra Catholic's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

After flying high against Orange Lutheran last Wednesday, JSerra Catholic came back down to earth. The Lions took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mater Dei Monarchs on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Monarchs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in March.

While JSerra Catholic ultimately came up short, they really made Mater Dei work, particularly in the first set. The final score came out to 35-33, 25-22, 23-25, 25-17.

Despite the loss, JSerra Catholic still got an impressive performance from Darren Chi, who had 17 digs and two assists. With that strong performance, Chi is now averaging an impressive 10.2 digs per game.

JSerra Catholic moved to 16-6 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Mater Dei, they pushed their record up to 22-10-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.

JSerra Catholic has already played their next game, a 3-0 defeat against Santa Margarita on the 14th. As for Mater Dei, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-1 loss against Loyola on the 12th.
