Softball Recap: Hackensack Comes Up Short

Hackensack was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against the West Orange Mountaineers, falling 17-5. The Comets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mountaineers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Briana Darling was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last 17 games she's played dating back to last season. Giada Oates was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.

Hackensack's loss dropped their record down to 3-7-1. As for West Orange, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Hackensack will face off against Tenafly at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.5 runs per game on average), something the Comets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for West Orange, they will head out to take on Glen Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Mountaineers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Ridgers have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
