Baseball Recap: Greene Central Finds Home Field Redemption Against Southside

There's no place like home for Greene Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Southside Seahawks on Wednesday. Considering the Rams have won three matchups by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Austin Oliver looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk).

At the plate, Elijah Monroe was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Greene Central is 2-1 when Monroe posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Riley Radford was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Greene Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February of 2024.

Greene Central moved to 5-5 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Southside, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-7.

Looking ahead, Greene Central will look to defend their home field on Friday against Ayden - Grifton at 7:00 p.m. Ayden - Grifton's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Greene Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Southside, they are taking a road trip to square off against Pamlico County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
