Baseball Game Preview: Northshore Panthers vs. Salmen Spartans

Northshore is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Thursday. They will welcome the Salmen Spartans at 3:30 p.m. Northshore's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Salmen's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

The home team had come away the winner the last six times Northshore and Zachary had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Northshore walked away with a 4-1 win over Zachary on Tuesday.

Carson Malasovich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Connor Smith and Brody Dukes did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Dukes scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Smith is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Salmen). They blew past Varnado 18-3 on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Spartans considering their two-run performance the game before.

Salmen moved to 4-13-2 with that victory, which also ended their seven-game losing streak. As for Northshore, their win bumped their record up to 18-4-1.
