The Douglas Bulldogs will challenge the Eastmark Firebirds at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Douglas will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
On Wednesday, Douglas got the win against Cholla by a conclusive 8-2. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Douglas saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trase Rodriguez, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Douglas always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cholla only posted an OBP of .296.
Meanwhile, Eastmark beat Poston Butte 13-9 on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Firebirds.
Austin Snyder made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Thomas Joesten was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Eastmark's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 6-12 when he doesn't). Jack Rosales was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Douglas pushed their record up to 15-8-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Eastmark, their win bumped their record up to 8-13.
Everything went Douglas' way against Eastmark in their previous matchup back in February, as Douglas made off with an 11-3 victory. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Firebirds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
