Basketball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Garfield Community Learning Center's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Garfield Community Learning Center unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They took an 83-68 bruising from the St. Ignatius Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Golden Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while the Wildcats are ranked first).

Garfield Community Learning Center lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Rayshawn Hamilton, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Hamilton's afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Terion Chapman was another key player, going 5 for 6 on his way to 12 points.

St. Ignatius' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kalli Johnson, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 22 points and three steals. Those 22 points gave Johnson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Damon Friery, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Garfield Community Learning Center's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for St. Ignatius, they pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Garfield Community Learning Center didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-49 victory against GlenOak on the 27th. As for St. Ignatius, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 73-63 defeat against Reynoldsburg on the 22nd.
