Basketball Recap: Apple Valley Comes Up Short

Apple Valley's tournament run continued when they took on Sierra Vista on Friday. The Apple Valley Sun Devils were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 55-54 to the Sierra Vista Dons. The Sun Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Leading Sierra Vista to victory were Ethan Guevara and Aaron Buna. Guevara dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards, while Buna posted 15 points and six steals. Alvin Hernandez was another key player, putting up five points.

Apple Valley now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Sierra Vista, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season.

Apple Valley will venture away from home to square off against Big Bear at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Big Bear knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Apple Valley likes a good challenge. As for Sierra Vista, they and Warren will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Sierra Vista is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.9 points per game this season.
