Preview: Crosby Cougars vs. La Porte Bulldogs
The Crosby Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the La Porte Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Crosby will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 543rd, while La Porte is ranked 134th).
Crosby can finally bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game two weeks ago. They came out on top against Sterling by a score of 15-7.
Crosby's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Levi Fontenot, who rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown. Brandt Wright also helped out with an impressive 106 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, La Porte got themselves on the board against Sterling on Friday, but Sterling never followed suit. They really took it to the Rangers for the full four quarters, racking up a 34-0 win on the road. The result was nothing new for La Porte, who have now won four matchups by 28 points or more so far this season.
La Porte got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyresse Barnes out in front who rushed for 118 yards on only seven carries. Barnes hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Keenan Lawrence was another key contributor, rushing for 130 yards on only 14 carries.
Their wins bumped Crosby to 1-7 and La Porte to 7-2.
Crosby beat La Porte 49-42 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Crosby since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
