Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Tristan Cowan and Brody Hunt Lead South Iredell to Victory + How To Watch

The matchup between South Iredell and Alexander Central on Friday hardly resembled the 7-2 effort from their previous meeting. The Vikings secured a 48-44 W over the Cougars. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Vikings were down 28-12 in the second quarter.

A big part of South Iredell's win came down to the chemistry between Tristan Cowan and his top target Brody Hunt. Cowan threw for 424 yards and seven touchdowns while picking up 12.5 yards per attempt while Hunt picked up 312 receiving yards and four scores. Those four receiving touchdowns gave Hunt a new career-high.

South Iredell didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Q Govan and Xavier Farley. Farley also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with nine. Another thorn in Alexander Central's side was Rashad Howell, who picked up a sack and made ten total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Alexander Central lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Sawyer Chapman-Mays, who rushed for 132 yards and one TD. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 100.4 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Jaheim Redmond, who picked up 39 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

South Iredell picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-3. As for Alexander Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

South Iredell and Alexander Central will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Vikings see the field they'll take on Mooresville at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. As for Alexander Central, their break will end when they face St. Stephens at 7:30 p.m. on October 3.
