Basketball Game Preview: Libertas Academy Charter Lions vs. Capital Prep Trailblazers

The Libertas Academy Charter Lions will venture away from home to take on the Capital Prep Trailblazers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Libertas Academy Charter is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game dating back to last season on January 6th. They were outmatched by Cheney Tech and fell 102-53. The Lions were down 69-43 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Meanwhile, Capital Prep came up short against Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy on Tuesday and fell 64-54. The Trailblazers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Libertas Academy Charter will have to contain Syre Gillespie as he made an impact in Capital Prep's last game. He posted 31 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks. The match was Gillespie's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Javaris Spencer was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 15 boards.

Even though they lost, Capital Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Libertas Academy Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Capital Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.

Libertas Academy Charter came up short against Capital Prep when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 79-66. Can Libertas Academy Charter avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
