Football Game Preview: Bishop O'Connell Knights vs. St. Mary's Ryken Knights

Bishop O'Connell hasn't had much luck against St. Mary's Ryken recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Bishop O'Connell will look to defend their home field against St. Mary's Ryken at 12:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Bishop O'Connell turned things around against Bishop Ireton on Saturday. They secured a 33-28 W over the Cardinals.

Nick Morris had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 156 yards and one touchdown while picking up 9.2 yards per carry. His longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards. Another player making a difference was Ryan Turpin, who threw for 205 yards and three TDs.

Bishop O'Connell didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kian Kaboli and Joshua Taliaferro. Bishop O'Connell got some further help from Jayden Campbell: he made 11 total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Mary's Ryken). They breezed past Paul VI to the tune of 48-14 on Friday. With the Knights ahead 28-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

St. Mary's Ryken now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Bishop O'Connell, their win bumped their record up to 2-5.
