Softball Game Preview: Orange Lutheran Lancers vs. Santa Margarita Eagles

Orange Lutheran is 9-1 against Santa Margarita since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Lancers are taking a road trip to challenge the Eagles at 3:30 p.m. Orange Lutheran's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Santa Margarita's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Last Tuesday, Orange Lutheran narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past JSerra Catholic 2-1. The Lancers haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Rylee Silva spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Chloe McGreevey was excellent, going 3-for-5 with one triple, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kai Minor, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.

Meanwhile, Santa Margarita won against Mater Dei on Tuesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Eagles came out on top against Mission Viejo by a score of 7-3. The victory was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won three contests in a row.

Santa Margarita's win bumped their record up to 14-5-1. As for Orange Lutheran, their victory bumped their record up to 15-2.

Orange Lutheran beat Santa Margarita 4-0 in their previous matchup last Tuesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
