Baseball Game Preview: Worcester Tech Eagles vs. South Colonels

The Worcester Tech Eagles will face off against the South Colonels at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Worcester Tech is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Worcester Tech fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Keefe Tech on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Broncos by a score of 9-8.

Yuandel Ortiz was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Kenny Bergeron Jr. was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South). They were the clear victors by a 20-9 margin over Assabet Valley RVT on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Colonels, who have now won seven games by nine runs or more so far this season.

The victory made it two in a row for South and bumps their season record up to 8-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Worcester Tech, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Worcester Tech beat South 7-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Colonels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
