Recap: Sperry Pirates vs. Adair Warriors
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Sperry Pirates can now relate to. They received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 44-30 to Adair. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sperry in their matchups with Adair: they've now lost three in a row.
Brady Benham and Landen Brooks certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Benham rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.0 yards per carry, while Brooks rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Brooks is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played.
Cale Winfrey was his usual excellent self, throwing for 265 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 13.3 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 126 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Winfrey really tore up the turf during one magnificent 79-yard run. Adair also got help from Cole Moody who showed off his sure hands for 107 receiving yards.
Sperry's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Adair, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-3.
Sperry does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Adair will face off against Vian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Oklahoma (Vian is ranked 80th, while Adair is ranked 88th).
