Basketball Game Preview: Valley Center Hornets vs. Maize Eagles

Valley Center is 0-4 against Maize since December of 2014 but things could change on Friday. The Valley Center Hornets will challenge the Maize Eagles at 7:00 p.m. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Austin Saner and Brayden Myovela.

Valley Center will head into Tuesday's game eager for some revenge after what happened against Hutchinson: Valley Center managed to slip by Hutchinson the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Valley Center came up short against Hutchinson on Tuesday, falling 66-40. The matchup marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, Maize was able to grind out a solid win over South on Tuesday, taking the game 56-43. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Cougars are ranked 201st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Valley Center's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-2. As for Maize, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Valley Center suffered a grim 67-44 defeat to Maize in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Valley Center avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
