Softball Recap: El Capitan Vaqueros vs. Scripps Ranch Falcons
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact El Capitan can now relate to. They fell just short of the Scripps Ranch Falcons by a score of 8-7 on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vaqueros of the 3-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2021.
Makenna Burton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Sofia Simone was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Gabrielle Garcia, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double.
El Capitan's defeat dropped their record down to 14-13. As for Scripps Ranch, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-11-1.
