Basketball Recap: Bayfield Takes a Loss

Bayfield lost against Centauri back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Bayfield Wolverines received a blow as they fell 66-50 to the Centauri Falcons. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while the Falcons are ranked 27th).

Despite the loss, Bayfield still got an impressive performance from Lincoln Williams, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards. Williams is becoming a predictor of Bayfield's success: when he posts at least eight rebounds the team is 7-2 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Wilmer, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 14 points.

Centauri got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Carson Bagwell out in front who went 8-for-15 en route to 17 points. The contest was Bagwell's third in a row with at least 16 points. Troy Sowards was another key player, going 7-for-12 on his way to 17 points.

Bayfield's record now sits at 11-7. As for Centauri, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 18-0.

Bayfield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 53-46 win against Ignacio on the 13th. As for Centauri, they have also already played their next game, a 65-27 victory against Monte Vista on the 15th.
