Encinal is 2-7 against Arroyo since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Jets will be playing at home against the Dons at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Encinal comes in on four and Arroyo on three.
If Encinal beats Arroyo with nine runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Jets' pitchers stepped up to hand Hayward a 9-0 shutout on Tuesday. That looming 9-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Jets yet this season.
Oskar Jones was a standout: he scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Anthony Wilson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Encinal was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Arroyo). They were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over Hayward on Friday. The Dons not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 22, 2024.
Jacob Soares looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Arroyo is 2-1 when Soares allows one or fewer earned runs, but 4-7 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Arroyo let Gabe Zamora and Marco Carbajal run wild. Zamora scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Carbajal scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Zamora also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Christian Darosa, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Encinal's win bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Arroyo, their victory bumped their record up to 6-8.
Arroyo's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Encinal has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Arroyo, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Encinal keep running through batters, or will the Dons buck the trend?
