Basketball Recap: Leyden Takes a Loss

If Leyden was feeling good fresh off their 60-30 takedown of Lincoln Park last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Leyden Eagles were dealt a 59-32 loss at the hands of the Proviso East Pirates on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Eagles have suffered since February 12, 2024.

Proviso East was led to victory by Ava Kimble and Camiya Marshall. Kimble went 7 for 14 on her way to 19 points along with four steals and three blocks, while Marshall went 6 of 12 en route to 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Kimble a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Casandra Moore, who posted seven points and nine boards.

Leyden has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-6 record this season. As for Proviso East, they pushed their record up to 12-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Leyden will square off against Lincoln at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Leyden is facing Lincoln at the right time seeing as Lincoln is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Proviso East, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Crete-Monee at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Proviso East has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
