Baseball Game Preview: Sarasota Sailors vs. Venice Indians

Sarasota is 1-9 against Venice since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Sarasota Sailors will host the Venice Indians at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Venice will be up against a hot Sarasota squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Sarasota was the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over Riverview Sarasota on Friday. With that victory, the Sailors brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Braedon Mackay made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mackay was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other pitching news, Sarasota got a great performance from Cesar Garmendia as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Garmendia has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Sarasota let Patrick Drymon and Mark Metcalf run wild. Drymon went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Metcalf scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Metcalf has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Connor Boyd, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Venice's hitters rose to the challenge against a Warriors pitching crew that boasted an average of only four runs allowed on Friday. Everything went Venice's way against Osceola as Venice made off with a 10-2 win.

Venice's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Sarasota, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 5-2-1.
