Softball Recap: Independence Knights vs. Lebanon Trail Trail Blazers

Suggested Video

Independence extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 6-14 in the process. They lost 14-2 to the Lebanon Trail Trail Blazers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trail Blazers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-4 back in March.

As for Lebanon Trail, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

For Lebanon Trail's part, Parker Rodgers made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). Rodgers has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendall Dreary, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Astha Gupta also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As of now, neither Independence nor Lebanon Trail have any future games scheduled.
