The Longmont Trojans will head out on the road to take on the Skyline Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Longmont has given up an average of 41.7 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Longmont is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Riverdale Ridge on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Trojans took a blow against the Ravens, falling 56-14. The last quarter was a mere formality, since the game's final score was reached by the end of the third quarter.
Despite the loss, Longmont saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jacob Foot rushed for 136 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Foot's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Skyline over Grand Junction Central in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Falcons blew the Warriors out of the water with a 40-6 final score. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Falcons considering their seven-point performance the contest before.
Skyline didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Jackson Stanich, Diego Kheng, and Servando Morales picked up one apiece. Kheng also made eight total tackles, which is notable because Skyline is 2-1 when he posts at least three total tackles, but 0-4 otherwise.
This is the second loss in a row for Longmont and nudges their season record down to 1-6. As for Skyline, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-5.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Longmont has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 210.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Skyline struggles in that department as they've been averaging 159.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything went Longmont's way against Skyline when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Longmont made off with a 48-28 win. In that contest, the Trojans amassed a halftime lead of 27-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
