Recap: Southwest DeKalb Panthers vs. Druid Hills Red Devils
The Southwest DeKalb Panthers suffered their closest defeat since November 24, 2023 on Thursday. They fell just short of Druid Hills by a score of 57-54. Southwest DeKalb was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Druid Hills apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Despite the loss, Southwest DeKalb had strong showings from Sam Turner, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Jackson Ushery, who scored 22 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Turner has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Azeez Bello, who scored four points along with 13 rebounds and six assists.
Southwest DeKalb's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Druid Hills, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-7.
Southwest DeKalb will look to defend their home court on Friday against Clarkston at 7:30 p.m. Clarkston will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 496th, while Southwest DeKalb is ranked 218th). As for Druid Hills, they will head out on the road to challenge Miller Grove at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Miller Grove is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
