Football Recap: Evergreen Starts Season with Victory at Home

Evergreen gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They really took it to the Jefferson Wildcats for the full four quarters, racking up a 41-7 win. With the Vikings ahead 21-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Bryce Bolger had a dynamite game, rushing for 95 yards and three TDs on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 67 yards and one touchdown. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Austin Gillen was another key player, rushing for 99 yards and one score on only 14 carries.

Evergreen's run defense was locked in: Jefferson could only muster 2.5 yards per carry. While six picked up at least two total tackles, Will Ruetz stood above the rest. He picked up 62 receiving yards and one touchdown. Evergreen didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.8.

Evergreen has already played their next match, a 42-0 victory against Ottawa Hills on the 29th. As for Jefferson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 26-14 win against Parkway on the 29th.
