Football Recap: Williamsport Wildcats vs. Mountain Ridge Miners

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Williamsport). Everything went their way against the Mountain Ridge Miners on Thursday as the Williamsport Wildcats made off with a 47-27 win. Considering the Wildcats have won three contests by more than 19 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

A big part of Williamsport's victory came down to the chemistry between Gabriel Parker and his top target Ceonta Wilmore. Parker threw for 254 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes while Wilmore picked up 182 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Wilmore was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 52 yards. Landen Mcallister made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Williamsport didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Masiah Martin and Mcallister.

Several Miners players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Carter Clites, who threw for 198 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 49 yards and a touchdown. Another rusher making a difference was Kyree Griffin, who gained 123 total yards and a touchdown.

The win made it two in a row for Williamsport and bumps their season record up to 5-3. As for Mountain Ridge, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Williamsport will look to defend their home field on Friday against Manchester Valley at 6:00 p.m. Manchester Valley will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each match than the last. As for Mountain Ridge, they are on the road again on Friday to play Keyser at 7:00 p.m.
