Basketball Recap: Center Falls Despite Big Games from Tima Makovey and Andy Mclear

Center lost against Colfax back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Center Cougars lost 83-59 to the Colfax Falcons. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 815th, while the Falcons are ranked 369th).

Center's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Andy McLear, who posted 24 points, and Tima Makovey, who had 15 points and three steals. McLear's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Nesmith, who scored five points and three steals.

Center's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-16. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points over those games. As for Colfax, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Center will head out to square off against Mira Loma at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Center knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Mira Loma likes a good challenge. As for Colfax, they will venture away from home to face off against Oakmont at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Oakmont's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
