Softball Recap: Mathis Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Mathis came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the George West Longhorns 20-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-1 on March 12th.

The team relied heavily on Audrey Salinas, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marivel Martinez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Mathis lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Mathis' record is now 12-8. As for George West, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season.

Mathis will host West Oso at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bears' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Pirates' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for George West, they will venture away from home to square off against Taft at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
