Basketball Recap: Pieper Comes Up Short

Pieper was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-44 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wagner Thunderbirds. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 39-32 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Pieper lost, don't look at MAYSON THOMAS. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of PORTER JENSEN, who posted six points and five rebounds.

Wagner's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Daimen Ramirez led the charge by going 7 of 14 on his way to 18 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Marcus Johnson, who put up 13 points and four steals.

Pieper's loss dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Wagner, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-7.

Pieper and Wagner should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Pieper (ranked 183rd) will meet Tivy (ranked 407th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pieper is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Wagner (ranked 31st) will meet New Braunfels (ranked 172nd) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
