Football Recap: Sunia Fifita Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Cyprus + How To Watch

Granger won the last time they faced Cyprus and things went their way on Friday too. The Lancers blew past the Pirates 26-6. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 20 points or more this season.

Granger's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sunia Fifita led the charge by rushing for 129 yards and one TD on only 14 carries. Fifita's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 12th straight game with at least 105 rushing yards dating back to last season. Mateni Puamau helped out on the ground, rushing for 94 yards and a rushing touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Granger was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 346 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Granger's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB 18 times. Lu Kinikini led the group effort, picking up eight of those sacks all by himself. Moa Havili has become a key player for Granger: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one sack, but 1-2 otherwise.

Granger's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.7 points on average over those games. As for Cyprus, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

Looking ahead, Granger will be playing in front of their home fans against Hunter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cyprus, they will head out to challenge Hillcrest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates are facing the Huskies at the right time seeing as the Huskies are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
