Preview: Maple Mountain Golden Eagles vs. Pleasant Grove Vikings

After two games on the road, Maple Mountain is heading back home. They will take on the Pleasant Grove Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Thursday, Maple Mountain was able to grind out a solid victory over Murray, taking the game 51-44. Given Maple Mountain's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Murray is ranked 89th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Maple Mountain's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kylee Gause, who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ashlynn Lainhart, who scored 13 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.

Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They walked away with a 47-40 win over Springville.

Pleasant Grove had a senior duo take command as Sarah Newman dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds and Amber Cook scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Newman continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tabi Clark, who scored 7 points.

Maple Mountain pushed their record up to 6-1 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Pleasant Grove, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Maple Mountain hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 58.6 points per game. However, it's not like Pleasant Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 53 per game. The only thing between Maple Mountain and another offensive beatdown is Pleasant Grove.
