Baseball Recap: Gateway College Preparatory Extends Winning Streak to Four

Gateway College Preparatory proved they can win big on Friday (they won by six) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Coldspring-Oakhurst Trojans 3-1. The victory was familiar territory for the Gators, who have now won four matches in a row.

Kaleb Sprinkle tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched.

At the plate, Andres Garza-Gongora was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

Gateway College Preparatory's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Coldspring-Oakhurst, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-8-1.

Coming up, Gateway College Preparatory will venture away from home to square off against Navasota at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Navasota will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Gateway College Preparatory surely won't give up without a fight. As for Coldspring-Oakhurst, they will be taking part in a tournament against Corrigan-Camden at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Coldspring-Oakhurst's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Corrigan-Camden's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
