I Section II recap October 1, 2013
Westview extended the longest winning streak in I Section II this week by beating Basha, 38-28. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Maryvale lost to Skyline 57-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Jalen Johnson was a passing and rushing force as Westview topped the Bears. Johnson's key target this week was Johnson, who caught 2 passes for 45 yards.
Johnson was a beast in the backfield as Jeff Bowen's team beat Basha.
Damian Alarcon threw for 186 yards and 2 touchdowns. He went 11-17 with 1 interception.
Abram Cook was a key player and the best on defense this week as Valley Vista beat O'Connor. The 5-foot-11 defensive lineman racked up 2.0 sacks.
Terry Juniel was the best receiver in the league this week as the Monsoon beat the Eagles. Juniel racked up 7 receptions for 168 yards. Jeff Harris helped Valley Vista's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 10 yards.
Valley Vista's Alarcon and Juniel have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Alarcon has thrown for 1,026 yards this season, while Juniel, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 30 catches for 606 yards. Johnson from the Knights leads the league in rushing with 754 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Josh Sekoch's team's Juniel goes up against Millennium's Aaron Diggs.
Next week's game between the Monsoon and the Tigers will feature an aerial matchup as Alarcon tests his arm against Diggs' defensive ability.
A big matchup in I Section II this week will be when Valley Vista takes on Millennium. The Monsoon are currently in second, while Jason Randels' team is in third.
The Tigers and Boulder Creek played the most contested game in the league this week, with the Tigers eventually emerging with a 17-14 victory. Walter Freeman threw for 208 yards and ran for 11 yards during the win.
