Basketball Recap: Rio Grande Takes a Loss

Rio Grande was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They fell 46-39 to the Cibola Cougars. Sadly, that's the third time they've come up short against the Ravens this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 45-34 last Friday.

When it comes to explaining why Rio Grande lost, don't look at Sophia L?pez. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. That was a full 53.8% of Rio Grande's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Jaeda Chavez was another key player, going 6 for 9 on her way to 13 points.

Rio Grande's loss dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Cibola, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-5.

Rio Grande will face off against Manzano at 7:00 p.m. on January 15th. As for Cibola, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Cibola Cougars duke it out with the Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cibola is facing Atrisco Heritage Academy at the right time seeing as Atrisco Heritage Academy is stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
