Basketball Recap: Rifle Bears vs. Eagle Valley Devils
Rifle was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 78-43 defeat at the hands of the Eagle Valley Devils. The Bears lost against the Devils in their previous head to head back in February of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 67-53 score last time.
Rifle lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being John Langstaff, who went 6 for 7 on his way to 13 points. Adan Medina was another key player, going 6 for 15 on his way to 13 points.
It was another big night for Dylan Zoller, who went 6 of 7 en route to 18 points along with five boards and five steals for Eagle Valley. Zoller's afternoon made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Newbanks, who posted 12 points and three steals.
Rifle's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Eagle Valley, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.
Rifle will welcome Delta at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Eagle Valley, they will venture away from home to challenge Grand Junction Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Eagle Valley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matches.
