Baseball Recap: West Mesa Takes a Loss

On Saturday, the West Mesa Mustangs didn't have quite enough to beat the Bernalillo Spartans and fell 5-4. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

West Mesa saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aven Covarrubias, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles. The dominant performance gave Covarrubias a new career-high in hits. Another was Daniel Rodriguez, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

West Mesa's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Bernalillo, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season.

Coincidentally, West Mesa and Bernalillo will both be playing Moriarty the next time they take the field. West Mesa will host Moriarty at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Bernalillo will play them later in the day, at 1:00 p.m.
