If SouthWest Edgecombe beats Ayden - Grifton with 13 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Cougars blew past Hobgood Charter 13-3 on Thursday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by ten runs or more this season.
Mackenzie Rogers and Alana Carroll made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Rogers struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Carroll pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Rogers scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-5, while Carroll scored two runs while going 4-for-5. What's more, Rogers posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Deniya Mayo was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Mackenzie Moore was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.
SouthWest Edgecombe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .324 or higher in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Ayden - Grifton made easy work of North Pitt on Thursday and carried off a 13-1 victory. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by ten runs or more this season.
Kenlie Guthrie made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Guthrie was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Aaliyah Williams was a standout: she scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Kaylin Pilgreen also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
SouthWest Edgecombe pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Ayden - Grifton, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. SouthWest Edgecombe has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Ayden - Grifton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
SouthWest Edgecombe was able to grind out a solid victory over Ayden - Grifton in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 5-0. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
