Softball Game Preview: Oak Grove Grizzlies vs. Central Davidson Spartans

The Oak Grove Grizzlies will head out on the road to take on the Central Davidson Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oak Grove will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Oak Grove had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Montgomery Central on Friday. Oak Grove never let Montgomery Central get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Grizzlies, who have now won four games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Kate Bertschi, who gave up just seven hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Montgomery Central off the board. What's more, Bertschi gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Harper Sugg was a standout: she scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabelle Lawrence, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Sugg wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Oak Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Montgomery Central only managed six hits.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Central Davidson's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of North Davidson by a score of 11-9.

Oak Grove pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Central Davidson, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.

Oak Grove beat Central Davidson 6-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will Oak Grove repeat their success, or does Central Davidson has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
