Softball Game Preview: Obion County Rebels vs. Dyer County Choctaws

Obion County hasn't had much luck against Dyer County recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Rebels will host the Choctaws at 5:00 p.m.

Obion County came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against South Gibson, falling 8-2.

Meanwhile, Dyer County waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Cavaliers with a sharp 9-1 win. Considering the Choctaws have won ten matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Rylee Key was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Dyer County let Katie Caldwell and Emma Wray run wild. Caldwell scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Wray went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most runs Caldwell has posted over her last six games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Hill, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Dyer County pushed their record up to 18-4 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Obion County, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

Obion County suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Dyer County in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Rebels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
