Baseball Recap: St. Francis Borgia Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

St. Francis Borgia waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Lutheran Cougars. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Knights also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2025.

Lane Mallinckrodt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 5.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of St. Francis Borgia's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-11 when he doesn't).

In other pitching news, Gus Schrader looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

Mallinckrodt wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Oliver Robinson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI. Another was Jase Shofner, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

St. Francis Borgia's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Lutheran, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.

St. Francis Borgia and Lutheran could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings. The Knights (ranked 184th) will meet Duchesne (ranked 22nd) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Lutheran will take on Gateway Legacy Christian Academy at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (276 vs. 119).
