Softball Recap: Howell Comes Up Short

Howell fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Airport on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Jets by a score of 6-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-2 on Monday.

Leighton Scott and Clem Stevens did some serious damage despite the final result: Scott went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI, while Stevens went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Layla McCarthy was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Howell has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-13 record this season. As for Airport, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 27-4-1.

Coming up, Howell will head out to challenge Lakeland at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Highlanders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Airport, they will be playing at home against Allen Park at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
