Basketball Recap: Harlingen Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Marcus Gutierrez and Luis Rodriguez

If Harlingen was riding high fresh off their 68-48 takedown of Hanna last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Harlingen Cardinals took a 76-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Los Fresnos Falcons. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (68), the Cardinals still had to take the loss.

Harlingen's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Luis Rodriguez, who posted 25 points, and Marcus Gutierrez, who earned 17 points. The matchup was Rodriguez's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Hernandez, who scored seven points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Los Fresnos to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gio Galvan, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 17 rebounds. Galvan is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Eric Salazar, who went 7 of 13 en route to 15 points.

Harlingen's loss dropped their record down to 22-5. As for Los Fresnos, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season.

Harlingen has already played their next contest, a 68-37 win against San Benito on the 17th. As for Los Fresnos, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 67-57 victory against Hanna on the 17th.
