Baseball Game Preview: Franklin County Eagles vs. Lord Botetourt Cavaliers

The Franklin County Eagles will face off against the Lord Botetourt Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

On Thursday, Franklin County didn't have quite enough to beat William Byrd and fell 8-7. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Lord Botetourt fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Northside on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 8-7 to the Vikings, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Cavaliers have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Noah Donaho made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Lord Botetourt is 5-2 when Donaho posts one or more home runs, but 6-7-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jairdan Pennix, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Franklin County's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Lord Botetourt, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9-1.

Franklin County took their win against Lord Botetourt in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 10-3 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cavaliers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
