Basketball Recap: Central Valley Academy's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Saturday

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Central Valley Academy walked away with it. They walked away with a 65-55 victory over the Mexico Tigers on Saturday. Given the Thunder's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while the Tigers are ranked 398th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Calvin Jacquays continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 11-for-23 en route to 26 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Smalls, who posted 14 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Central Valley Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Central Valley Academy's win bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Mexico, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7.

Looking ahead, Central Valley Academy will head out on the road to take on Westhill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westhill will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something Central Valley Academy surely won't give up without a fight. Mexico does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
