Baseball Game Preview: St. Augustine Saints vs. Bonita Vista Barons

St. Augustine is a perfect 5-0 against Bonita Vista since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Saints will head out on the road to square off against the Barons at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (St. Augustine has three straight victories, Bonita Vista has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

St. Augustine saw some tournament action on Thursday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over Del Norte.

Cristian Mares looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tyler Wick, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Raphael Dunne, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

St. Augustine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Bonita Vista didn't have quite enough to beat Poway on Saturday and fell 8-6.

Bonita Vista saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was LEO CUBILLAS, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. TYLER MAULA also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Bonita Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for St. Augustine, their record is now 8-5.

St. Augustine beat Bonita Vista 5-2 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saints since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
