Basketball Recap: Petrolia Comes Up Short

Petrolia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 104-26 loss at the hands of the Nocona Indians. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1162nd, while the Indians are ranked 199th).

Despite the loss, Petrolia saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Misty Carman posted nine points. That's the most points Carman has posted since back in November of 2023.

Petrolia's defeat dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Nocona, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-5.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Seymour the next time they take the court. Petrolia will head out to face Seymour at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Nocona will host them at 3:00 p.m. on January 11th.
